Waltz Of Auctions At Vienna'S Dorotheum

In the second half of April, three sales will be taking place at the
Dorotheum in Vienna: the catalogues are dedicated to 19th-century paintings
(on 20th April), Old Masters (on 21st April), Antiques (on 21st and 22nd
April) and Jewellery (on 22nd April). With very reassuring results achieved
by the Austrian art market in 2009 (the auction house totalled 11.3 million
euros, with a 5% increase compared to 2008), the first auction week in April
is proposing interesting sessions ...

Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster

Following her 2008 Tate Modern Unilever Commission, TH.2058, Dominique
Gonzalez-Foerster presents three films connected to past exhibitions of her
work, but not in a conventional documentary manner. Marquise was filmed
directly after opening at the 2006 São Paolo Biennial, De Novo was filmed
one month before opening at the 2009 Venice Biennale, and Noreturn was
filmed during the final week of TH.2058 at Tate Modern in 2009. Following
the screening Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster will be joined in conversation
with Tate curators Stuart Comer and Jessica Morgan.

Voor de tweede keer op rij laat de MuseumPrijs het kind aan het woord in de
Prijs van de KinderJury. Deze prijs houdt een erkenning in voor het meest
kindvriendelijke museum in elk van de drie regio's. Het museum met de meeste
kinderstemmen wint de KinderJuryPrijs en mag zich gedurende één jaar meest
kindvriendelijke museum noemen.

Stemmertjes maken kans op een kunstboek op kindermaat, rugzakjes of een
setje kleurpotloden.

Dit jaar viert de MuseumPrijs, een initiatief van Openbaar Kunstbezit
Vlaanderen met de steun van het advocatenkantoor Linklaters LLP onder het
erevoorzitterschap van Baron Jean-Pierre de Bandt, zijn eerste lustrum. Ook
nu bekroont die drie musea (één in Vlaanderen, één in Brussel en één in
Wallonië) met elk € 10.000. Uitmuntende publiekswerking en vooral de zorg
voor bijzondere doelgroepen (kinderen, mensen met een handicap, kansarmen,
allochtonen) zijn de doorslaggevende selectiecriteria van de vakjury. De
museabezoekers hebben een eigen stem in het kapittel en verkiezen per regio
hun favoriete musea. Deze Publieksprijzen zijn goed voor drie keer € 2.500.
En er is de Kinderjury, waarbij het jonge volkje zelf bepaalt welke musea
het kindvriendelijkst zijn.

Felix Gonzalez-Torres : Specific Objects without Specific Form

Wiels stelt in première het tweede deel voor van de Felix Gonzalez-Torres
retrospectieve (VS, geb Cuba 1957-1996), één van de meest invloedrijke
kunstenaars van zijn generatie. Door twee radicaal verschillende versies te
presenteren op twee verschillende momenten baseert deze retrospectieve zich
op het idee dat er geen correcte, absolute of unieke manier bestaat om het
werk te tonen van een kunstenaar als Gonzalez-Torres. De kunstenaar Danh Vo
werd uitgenodigd om halfweg een nieuwe tentoonstelling samen te stellen :
zijn sterk uitgedunde en poëtische scenografie beklemtonen de fysische
relatie van de bezoeker met elk object en de ruimte waarin ze zich bevinden.

Melvin Moti : From Dust to Dust

Met het oog van een amateur detective/historicus en werkend met een
intensiteit en een traagheid die zeldzaam is geworden bij kunstenaars van
zijn generatie geeft de Nederlandse kunstenaar Melvin Moti (1977) geeft de
centrale rol aan mislukking en stof, in een nieuw project dat sinds een jaar

Felix Gonzalez-Torres : Specific Objects without Specific Form

Wiels présente la deuxième partie de la rétrospective de Felix
Gonzalez-Torres (Etats-Unis, né à Cuba 1957-1996), un des artistes les plus
influents de sa génération. En offrant deux installations radicalement
différentes des oeuvres emblématiques de l'artiste, cette rétrospective
souligne le fait qu'il n'existe pas de manière unique ou absolue de
présenter l'œuvre d'un artiste comme Gonzalez-Torres. L'artiste Danh Vo a
été invité à ré-installer l'exposition à la moitié de sa durée: sa
scénographie clairsemée et poétique souligne la relation physique du
visiteur à chaque objet et à l'espace dans lequel il se trouve.

Felix Gonzalez-Torres : Specific Objects without Specific Form

Wiels premieres the second part of a two-part survey of Felix
Gonzalez-Torres (USA, b. Cuba 1957-1996), one of the most influential
artists of his generation. By offering two radically different installations
of Gonzalez-Torres' iconic artworks at two different moments, this
retrospective insists that there is no correct or absolute way to present
the oeuvre of an artist like Gonzalez-Torres. Artist Danh Vo was invited to
re-curate the exhibition half way through its duration: his sparse and
poetic scenography emphasizes the visitor's physical relationship to each
object and the space they find themselves in.

Op zondag 25 april 2010 vindt de jaarlijkse KASK-opendeurdag plaats. De hele
dag door kan je er komen praten met studenten en docenten, de ateliers
bezichtigen of de algemene infosessies bijwonen. Mis deze dag dus zeker
niet!

Campus Bijloke = meeting point met centrale infostand (Jozef Kluyskensstraat
2)

De hele dag door worden er infosessies georganiseerd voor alle
kandidaat-studenten.
Van hieruit wordt ook een pendelbus voorzien tussen campus Bijloke en
Academiestraat voor de atelierbezoeken.

KASKlezing Manah Depauw

Theatermaakster Manah Depauw (° 1979) is afgestudeerd aan het conservatorium
van Luik. In 2002 richtte ze samen met Marijs Boulogne haar eigen gezelschap
op, Buelens Paulina. Hun eerste productie, Endless Medication, werd
geselecteerd voor het Theaterfestival 2003. Nadien volgden nog
voorstellingen als Hotel Zero Control (2003) en Good Habits (2004). Haar
bizarre, gruwelijke sprookje Johnson & Johnson was een absolute blikvanger
op het Theaterfestival 2009. Naast theater maakt Manah Depauw ook video's en
installaties, zoals De Kast (2004), Magic Box en Dressing Room (2005). Samen
met Bernard Van Eeghem maakte ze de performances How do you like my
landscape (2006) en All along the watchtower (2007).

De lezing duurt ongeveer één uur. Nadien krijgt het publiek uitgebreid de
mogelijkheid om vragen te stellen.

Boekvoorstelling Doe-het-zelfdemocratie

Op donderdag 22 april 2010 wordt het boek 'Doe-het-zelfdemocratie'
(uitgeverij EPO) gepresenteerd aan KASK, met bijdragen van An Van Dienderen
(postdoctoraal onderzoeker), Eric Balliu (eredocent), Rik Pinxten en
Dominique Willaert.

Doe-het-zelfdemocratie is een boek over mensen en hun rol in de samenleving.
Als zingever, als bouwer, als verhalenverteller, als opvoeder, als
ecologisch wezen... Het wil een inspiratiebron zijn om via bepaalde
inzichten en methodieken, projecten door te voeren die de samenleving beter,
aangenamer en zinvoller maken. Met de speciaal ontwikkelde werkbladen die
elk hoofdstuk afsluiten, richt Doe-het-zelfdemocratie zich niet alleen tot
de actieve burger, maar ook tot sociale en culturele werkers. Omdat
diversiteit een werkwoord is.

De Gent Matinees zijn een initiatief waarbij vijf zondagen per jaar de
Gentse galeries en expositieruimtes voor actuele kunst gezamenlijk hun
deuren openstellen. Tijdens dit evenement zijn alle participerende
tentoonstellingruimtes gegarandeerd te bezichtigen van 11u00 en 18u00. Zo
kan het publiek aan zijn eigen tempo en volgens zijn specifieke interesses
een parcours uitstippelen. Een folder met de deelnemers en een grondplan
liggen ter beschikking op iedere locatie. De folder is tevens te downloaden
via de website: www.gentmatinees.be.
De Gentse Matinees worden gecoördineerd door het project-en
tentoonstellingsteam van het departement KASK.

We have shown this movie a lot because it is fantastically illustrative of
the ethos that makes the Burn what it is. If you are sitting on the fence
and trying to decide whether to come to the burn, it will certainly sway you
one way or the other. Same with friends who cant decide. There is always
good discussion after.

There will be a screening of this in Johannesburg on the 9th.

Its that time before the burn when there is an audible crack, whirr and zing
of fabrication and planning in the atmosphere; Sewing machines, welders,
saws, posidrives, beading, music choosing, rehersing, glue guns all doing
over time....

This year sees the return of those purveyors of good music down at 2-ish abd
Binnekring, the Desert Roses, The Vuvucreativeare going big again with
Vuvulounge and mobile theatre, coming at you from the , those stallwarts of
dreamy postage needs in Tankwa Town the Burning Mail camp . Camp Lagmaal
bringing you massage by day and potbrood, wine and a laughing service by
night. Camp Cherries for all your Tankwa Town cherry needs, from cherry
crumpets to cherry brandy. The Succulents offering you not just a music camp
but a music Octopus to play in, Camp Smokiní Token, the Heart Space, the
Wonderleka Woeskus Daisies and many many more.....aaand then of course there
are artworks...James Clayton will be putting on th fog horn ...and the fog.
Cube of Dreams the kids burn, by the fabulous SUnset Oasis crew, Daya
Heller's Dream Tree, Echo by TNT, "Wake up and Dream" by Brad Baard and
Monique Schiess, Dedrick Lourens's "offside (/sight /site)" oversized
foosball Charl Bothma's Sand Man and again, lots lots more.

Now don't be thinking that because you havent made a large sculpture or
theme camp it ís too late for you to participate and be a part of Tankwa
Town. If you feel its too late to build a huge engineering-sculptural-feat,
you don't have to. AfrikaBurn is about community, engaging with each other
and the environment in an environment not mediated by commerce. It's about
injecting creativity into our everyday experiences. And so its often the
small stuff at AfrikaBurn that is so gratifying; the intimate, the playful:
that ice cold Pina Colada that someone hands to you while you're sweating it
out in the sun, a refreshing spray from a "mister mister", the spray bottle
guy, the roaming string quartet, dressing up, which often leads to
spontaneous acts of performance art, that ride on an art car your favourite
Kwaitobilly tune being blasted out over the Tankwa Karoo, the hula hoping
workshop, delicious chocolate brownies being handed out. There are so many
fabulous ways to participate.

SO go forth and create, we are looking forward to seeing you!

MOOPING NEEDS YOU!

We have had a super response to our volunteer mail, but one portfolio
remains a little thin on the ground so to speak, and that is MOOP. To the
uninitiated, that is Matter Out Of Place, a clever term for rubbish. Now we
know that most of you fab citizens of Tankwa Town don't intend to drop that
stompie or false eyelash, but it does sometimes happen...AND that wind does
carry stuff far and wide when it is not weighted down. So we like to make
sure that we pick up every last little bit of something left in Tankwa Town.
Being on the MOOP team means staying in the desert for a day longer or
getting on the job on the last day already. if you are up for that please
