Hello good people

AfrikaBurn 2010 is just around the corner 22 -27 April 2010...

We need aksie and we need you... AfrikaBurn is a fully participant funded
and participant created 'not for profit' event ~ volunteering is the
cornerstone of how things take shape in that wonderful Tankwa town. Without
you this event could not happen, and its growing people, every year!

Its our community, its our event, please come forward and sign up for a
shift or three!

There are a range of very exciting positions to be filled and the more you
get involved, the more you get out of it, also the more people who get
involved the more the load gets spread!

What's in it for you?: You decide what to do from the range of roles on
offer, you choose when to do shifts, you meet wonderful people, you will be
lead and briefed by the awesome Head Ranger Bob, you will inevitably learn
new skills, you will utilize those extraordinary talents you have, you will
share your energy and contribute to a phenomenal experience, you will
experience community participation like never before , you will give your
experience of the event a whole new meaning, you will welcome new
participants and make them feel at home (a truly south African trait!!) ,
you will always be supported by other volunteers with experience, you will
not be placed into anything you don't feel comfortable doing or don't want
to do, YOU WILL LOVE IT!!.... And the list goes on...

Why you would not want to volunteer: ... Hmmmmm nope... no reasons here!

So agreeing that it is an absolutely awesome and rewarding way to
participate in the community here are some details..... Volunteer
positions/roles vary in commitment: some people will work anything from a
few months to a couple of hours, pre- during- and post the event.

- You can volunteer for more than one department or portfolio
- You can volunteer if you haven't been to any pre-event meetings, or events
before
- Please be realistic and try not to commit to something that you will not
do or follow through on
- If you sign up for a shift please show up for it

For now here is a broad outline of the areas that we need help with at AB
2010:

Gate Duty

The gate is the first impression that people get of AfrikaBurn.

The gate people escourt participants to the ticket office and ensure that
they have a valid ticket in their hands and a map/program of the event.

They work closely with the ticket staff who have a very important task.

There is traffic control involved (during busy times) and they bring life
and soul to the very first interaction of the event..

gate people send participants off to greeters for orientation.

They might glance through cars looking for MOOP (matter out of place e.g.
dogs,) and they also make sure that all children are accompanied by
adults... This is an important role.

Length of shifts 3hrs

Greeters

The greeters are the welcoming committee with infectious exuberance that
hang out at the virgin bell (and an adjacent shade structure!!), sometime
wearing only a smile and nothing else,

they are there to orientate and educate each and every person with vital
info on driving into AfrikaBurn Tankwa Town and where to camp.

Length of shifts 3 hours

Rangers

Rangers are non-confrontational community mediators, they are to promote
awareness of potential hazards, ranging from sunburn to tent fires and lots
of other stuff in between.

Please note they are NOT police but interactive participants of the
community.

To be a ranger a sense of humour and flexibility will be a great asset.

Plus you get to walk around and really engage with all the participants
whilst wearing a groovy vest/tee shirt!

Rangers also help with fire perimeters, patrol during nights, and help
medics with people struggling to find their reality in a sometimes
psychedelic experience.

Ranger Bob urgently needs people who can help with conflict resolution,
psycho social counseling and general people lifeguarding.

Go on become a Ranger!!

Length of shifts 4hours

MOOP

(matter out of place)

to aid in the ideal of leaving no trace (except tyre marks and footprints in
the sand!!),

this is the cleanup crew who will trawl the landscape for all those last
lost bits of false eyelash/sequin/fake fur that got blown away in the wind
during (and after) the event .

The day after the event sees a team of MOOPERS combing the binne and
buitekring - it is truly a zen experience and with a great crowd it is fun..
a perfect way to round off your burn experience, all the while contributing
to leaving no trace which is rewarding in itself. .

...and this year it is full moon on the 28th what a reward!!!

Length of shifts 2 hrs (once a day) and whole day post event (28th)

4e Forum voor figurentheater - Schrijf je nu in!

Op (Paas)maandag 5 april 2010 is het weer van dattum. Dan presenteert Het
Firmament al voor de vierde keer het Forum voor figurentheater. De hele
figurentheater- en erfgoedsector wordt getrakteerd op een dag bomvol
presentaties, lezingen en acts. Interessante personen uit binnen- en
buitenland schetsen een levendig beeld van het bruisende
figurentheaterlandschap. En tijdens de lunch kan je meteen een kijkje nemen
in de Brusselpoort, de nieuwe thuis van Het FIrmament!

Wist jij dat Jan De Wilde ooit nog poppenspeler is geweest? Hij komt het
zelf allemaal uitleggen. Wil je wel eens weten of en hoe figurentheater een
plaats kan krijgen in theateropleidingen? Ben je benieuwd naar hoe ze dat in
Berlijn en Nottingham aanpakken? Of kijk je uit naar de lunch in de

Op stap - Gek van liefde (DE MAAN)
voorstelling en nagesprek met de theatermakers
op zondagnamiddag 28 maart 2010 in Mechelen

Op zondag 28 maart 2010 om 15 uur is Het Firmament weer op op pad. We gaan
kijken naar de nieuwste voorstelling van DE MAAN: Gek van liefde. Het is een
voorstelling voor kinderen vanaf 8 jaar, maar Gek van liefde kan zeker ook
grotemensenharten beroeren. Bereid je voor op een meeslepend en schitterend
'sterkerdanjezelf-verhaal' over de liefde van een kwetsbaar en gevoelig
jongetje voor een ouder meisje.

Na de voorstelling geven de theatermakers tekst en uitleg bij het stuk. Ze
vertellen over hun visie op figurentheater en maken tijd voor al jouw
vragen...

Behoud de beheerte
workshop behoud & beheer van theaterpoppen, o.l.v. Leon Smets
op vrijdag 28 mei 2010 in Het Huis van Alijn in Gent

Leon Smets weet perfect hoe je erfgoed het best kan bewaren: hij is
deskundige behoud en beheer bij FARO, steunpunt voor cultureel erfgoed. Op
vraag van Het Firmament past hij zijn kennis en expertise toe op
theaterpoppen. Met praktische tips en concrete richtlijnen vertelt hij hoe
je theaterpoppen een lang leven gunt.

Deze workshop is een onmisbaar infomoment voor iedereen die zelf
theaterpoppen bezit. Maar ook geïnteresseerden zonder een eigen collectie
kunnen hier heel wat opsteken. Want het wordt geen namiddag van theoretische
hocus pocus. De docent gaat aan de slag met een bestaande collectie en geeft
ter plaatse het goede voorbeeld.

Toonmoment Op handen
eindsprint van de workshop handpoppenspel, o.l.v. Paul Contryn
op donderdag 1 april 2010 om 19.30 uur in Mechelen

In de workshop Op handen hebben 15 deelnemers zich verdiept in de kunst en
kunde van het handpoppenspel. En ze hebben aan den lijve mogen ondervinden
dat dat heel wat oefening vereist. In allerlei spelsituaties hebben ze acht
weken lang de handpop van binnen en van buiten leren kennen.

Op donderdagavond 1 april 2010 tonen de nieuwbakken handpoppenspelers aan de
rest van de wereld wat ze al die weken uitgespookt hebben. Ze voeren een
aantal scènes op en presenteren de mooiste momenten uit de cursus in
Erfgoedcentrum Lamot (in zaal Alcazar op de vijfde verdieping). Je bent van
harte welkom!

Gent Poppenspelstad vult het voorjaar
vanaf zondag 28 maart 2010
evenement met nationale en internationale acts

Bij het Europees Figurentheatercentrum zitten ze niet stil. Op zondag 28
maart 2010 nemen ze de Gentse binnenstad in met de 2e editie van het
evenement Gent Poppenspelstad. Je kan om 11 uur al terecht op de Kouter voor
de eerste act van de dag. En vanaf dan gaat het feest elke vierde zondag van
de maand gewoon door. Het volledige programma vind je op de website van het

Het Firmament stopt Archiefbank vol poppen
groot aantal collecties nu digitaal raadpleegbaar
belangrijke stap in ontsluiting van kostbaar figurentheatererfgoed

Het Firmament heeft al een 60-tal collecties theaterpoppen ingevoerd in de
databank van Archiefbank Vlaanderen. Dat wil zeggen dat iedereen die fiches
gewoon kan consulteren. De gegevens werden in de loop van de voorbije drie
jaren verzameld tijdens het grote haalbaarheidsonderzoek.

Met de zoektermen 'figurentheater' en 'poppentheater' vind je alles
gemakkelijk terug. In de toekomst moet het aantal collecties in de databank
natuurlijk blijven stijgen. We houden je op de hoogte van de vorderingen!
